Five ways we’ve helped shape the industry in five years

As we celebrate our fifth anniversary, we look back on our highlights and achievements.

It’s been an exciting five years for Genba Digital. Our amazing team has worked with the biggest names in the business, we’ve dealt with some of the most exciting content in the world and we’ve worked our way through a serious amount of biscuits and coffee (yes, we have five coffee machines).

As a smaller brand, we’ve made some big waves in the digital distribution industry. Here are our five favourite achievements over the last five years…

Genba Digital is born – and we join forces with SEGA

It was in 2015 that Genba Digital launched, a spin-off from supply chain tech giant Sony DADC. The legendary Claire Ralley joined us as CCO from Take-Two Interactive and our partnership with SEGA – one of several with big-name games producers – began.

Online retail giant Amazon on board

By 2016, our first ever external investment helped us to grow our partnerships globally, while adding new development features to the platform – from key stock management to real time reporting and analytics. A proud moment for us when we signed up Amazon.

Genba doubles in size

Two years since launch and we had doubled our platform to distribute over 2,400 products (now more than 5,000) to a global network of etailers. We also welcomed our new CEO Matt Murphy from EMIS Group.

Crackdown on the grey market and more expansion (staff and etailers)

By 2018 we had an amazing team of 17 who helped us develop our pioneering technology to crackdown on the grey market and key reselling. We continued to support the move towards Direct Entitlement, deploying the Ubisoft Silent Key Activation solution to our first wave of etailers. We also expanded our distribution networks within the Americas, EMEA and Asia. The sky was the limit!

Genba launches the next generation distribution technology

Another big year for us… in 2019, we saw our print-to-receipt programme introduced in over 300 Tesco stores in the UK. We also revamped our branding, launching a shiny new logo. In the same year, we released our NextGen API, Genba 3.0 – an even more automated and efficient platform for our etailer partners. As part of our commitment to support the latest models for selling video games online, our innovative developments in 2019 included stock availability notifications, stock reserving, self-service functionality (for better visibility and dynamic planning), all housed in a fully cloud-based environment for global scaling and optimal security.

We got some great recognition for our hard work, too (see below) and we’re waiting to hear if we win three awards we’ve been shortlisted for. So it’s been a fantastic five years and we very much look forward to the next five. Happy Birthday to us!
