Introducing our newest recruit to the Genba team, Megan Garrett. A bit of a networking whiz and avid horror game fan, here’s her #gamechangingteam blog…

Firstly, welcome to the Genba Digital team! Tell us a bit about what you were doing at Activision Blizzard before you joined us.

Thank you for the warm welcome, excited to be on board!

Activision Blizzard was fast paced and a good step for me from SEGA as I got to work on some of the biggest franchises in the Video Games industry. I assisted in the first party commercial relationships with Sony and Nintendo, liaising with the store and marketing teams for digital launches such as Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4, Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy and most recently Sekiro™: Shadows Die Twice. I would also manage the lifecycle of products, online in-game events and promotional roadmaps for each individual title. This was a role that really excelled my commercial thinking and proved to be a great platform to lead me onto Genba Digital.

What are you looking forward to getting stuck into as Commercial Manager at Genba? Where do you think your strengths will come into good use?

I’m looking forward to being pushed outside of my comfort zone, having previously only been positioned at AAA Publishers within the Industry and now working with them through Genba. I think my key strengths are my relationship building and commercial mindset in delivering strong results for partners. Over the past few years, I have built up a good network within the industry and I’m hoping with my knowledge and connections I can expand it even further.

You’re one of the avid gamers on our team. It’s a cruel question, but what are your top 5 favourite games of all time and why?

This one is quite challenging as it’s hard to whittle down to a top 5. I’ll use a variety of different types of games to highlight my favourites, so in no particular order…

Persona 5 is one of the best games I have played; the story is near enough perfect and everything from the music, style and combat makes it a truly outstanding game.

I’m a huge horror fan, so it wouldn’t be a top 5 games list without including Silent Hill 2. I love blood and gore and completely scaring myself playing scary games in the dark. It was such a unique story and the technology was ahead of its time. It would be great if it got the Resident Evil 2 remake treatment in the future. Which leads me nicely into my next choice…

Resident Evil 2 Remake. Zombies, Puzzle, Blood and Gore. What more can a girl ask for.

God of War 2018 was an amazing ‘reboot’ of the franchise, the mechanics and character developments were flawless, and I am excited to see where this series goes.

The final game on my list and this was a tricky one, Sleeping Dogs. Not the biggest open world title but the story was captivating, and it’s set in Hong Kong, which is one of my favourite cities to visit.

Honourable mentions: Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry and The Sims (franchises that stole my heart).

One of the Genba Digital Values is ‘Be Honest’. Tell us something about yourself that you rarely ever tell people.

I like to think I am a pretty honest person and very open about most things (within reason!). Does having a phobia of badgers count?!

Lastly, what industry events are you looking forward to representing Genba at this year?

Without a doubt, Gamescom is one of my favourite events. It’s completely chaotic with meetings, catch-ups and walking around looking at all the cool Video Game exhibits (when you have time). It’s the event you know all your friends, ex-colleagues and connections attend from across the world. Nothing beats the feeling after a hard day of work grabbing a cheeky drink and a catch-up with those you know. I’m really looking forward to representing Genba Digital here – look out for me and let’s grab a beer!
